Holographic video chat demo between Edinburgh and Glasgow universities

On November 9, we ran a day of 3D video chats at the Glasgow Centre for Sustainable Solutions with the Scotland 5G Centre and the Communication, Sensing and Imaging group at the James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow with its Cop26 visitors on one end and Science & Engineering students at the Kings Buildings Campus at the University of Edinburgh in our new Holo Innovation Center on the other end in Edinburgh. Holographic 5G video chat demo between Dumfries and Glasgow

On November 11, we successfully showcased the world’s first 5G to 5G holographic 3D video chat and holographic high five hosted by the Crichton Trust’s 5G testbed in partnership with the Scotland 5G Centre, the Communication, Sensing and Imaging group at the James Watt School of Engineering, University of Glasgow and Nokia. Through its work with the University of Glasgow, Nokia is supporting the introduction of 5G capability into the region. Pekka Lundmark, President and CEO, Nokia, said:

“Taking holographic video calls from laboratory testing to actual daily use in offices and homes is no small feat. 5G Advanced is critical to enabling real-time calls and making ‘holo chats’ a viable alternative to business travel. I was seriously impressed by the Holoxica 3D Telepresence experience and it was fantastic to see Nokia’s 5G Core partnership with the University of Glasgow in action.”

It was such fun seeing everyone try out their holographic high five with the CEO of the Crichton Trust on the other end in Glasgow and witness the ‘aha’ moments of what this tech could deliver.
